For over 13 wonderful years, Joeann Knights shared her life with her beloved furry companion, Poppy, a beautiful Pit Bull mix.
The bond they formed was a testament to the joy they found in each other’s company, living life side by side.
Throughout those years, Joeann was always by Poppy’s side, and Poppy was her loyal shadow—until the day came for Poppy to cross the Rainbow Bridge.
Life with Precious Poppy
According to Joeann, their connection was truly special and unlike anything else. They loved adventuring together around their hometown, making memories, and appreciating the simple joy of being together.
“I never left her in her 13 and a half years of life. She was amazing and clever,” Joeann shared with The Dodo.
On tough days, one glance at Poppy’s sweet, speckled face was enough to brighten Joeann’s spirits. Poppy was not only clever but also full of surprises.
One memory that still brings a smile to Joeann’s face was the day Poppy managed to open the living room window and jump into the garden but couldn’t jump back in.
When Joeann came home, she had to rescue Poppy, who greeted her with a big, grateful hug.
Saying Goodbye
Sadly, after 13 incredible years, Poppy became seriously ill. With a heavy heart, Joeann had to face the painful reality that there was no way to save her beloved Poppy.
She made the heart-wrenching decision to let her cross the Rainbow Bridge.
Though it was devastating, Joeann knew it was a compassionate choice.
Signs from Across the Rainbow Bridge
Losing Poppy was incredibly difficult for Joeann, even though she still had her two other dogs, Pippin and Darcy. The void left by Poppy was immense.
Coping with the loss of a cherished pet is a painful journey, and Joeann took time to grieve.
But it seemed Poppy wasn’t ready to leave Joeann completely. She began sending signs to let her mom know she was still by her side.
“I found a feather in my cupboard. It was a strange color, and I didn’t know where it came from,” Joeann said. She decided to keep it, feeling that it was somehow connected to Poppy.
Six months later, Joeann discovered another sign, this time outside her door.
“I opened my front door, and there was a picture of my girl on my fence, made by snails. I cried… I thought I was going mad,” Joeann recalled.
The snail ‘portrait’ resembled Poppy’s face so perfectly that it felt like a message from her beloved dog.
It stayed on the fence for five days before the rain washed it away.
But Poppy’s signs didn’t end there.
A New Beginning
Remember the mysterious feather? Six months after finding it, there was a knock at Joeann’s door. A woman stood there, holding a puppy in her arms. She asked Joeann if she would consider adopting the pup.
To Joeann’s astonishment, the puppy had the same unusual color as the feather she had discovered months earlier.
“I went and saw the puppy, and she was the same color as the feather. I took her home. I don’t care what anyone says—my girl sent me the puppy,” Joeann said.
The puppy, named Amber, is now a cherished part of Joeann’s family.
While nothing can ever replace Poppy, Joeann takes comfort in knowing that her sweet girl is still watching over her, waiting patiently for the day they will be reunited.
