Dogs with disabilities often face unfair judgment, though their resilience and capacity for love remain unwavering. Every one of them deserves a loving home with a family who will care for them unconditionally.
In this story, we meet Moose, a dog missing part of his brain who narrowly escaped euthanasia because of his condition.
The Happiest Dog in the World
Jennifer Osborne, while browsing her local pet store in Ohio, found herself drawn to an unusual dog. He had visible disabilities, and upon inquiring, she learned that he was born with part of his brain and skull missing.
As Osborne described to Metro, “Moose’s nose was pushed into his skull, which caused the underbite, crooked nose, deformed skull, brain, and eye issues—likely from birth.”
Immediately connecting with him, Osborne knew she had to bring him home, aware that others might not give him the chance he deserved.
Moose’s Medical Struggles
Taking Moose in meant embracing his complex medical needs. He suffered frequent seizures that left him twitching and foaming at the mouth.
An MRI confirmed his condition was severe: his forehead and sinuses were missing, replaced by a cyst where his brain should have been.
Doctors advised that his seizures would be lifelong, but Osborne was undeterred.
“He’s the happiest dog I’ve ever met, and he’s a blessing in my life,” she said, grateful to be his family.
A Bittersweet Goodbye
For seven wonderful years, Moose and Osborne shared a deep bond. Sadly, in the summer of 2023, Moose’s health declined, and despite the veterinarians’ best efforts, he passed away.
The Osborne family, heartbroken, took comfort in knowing that Moose had experienced the love he deserved.
Jennifer honored Moose’s memory with a heartfelt Instagram video, sharing his joyful spirit with those who followed his journey.
Though the loss was profound, they cherished every moment of the special bond they shared, grateful to have given Moose a life filled with love.
