Lee Asher, a dedicated dog rescuer and the founder of The Asher House, an animal sanctuary in Oregon, was called in to meet a dog named Brutus, a Mastiff who had been labeled “aggressive” and was struggling at a local shelter.
Little did Asher know, this would be the beginning of a beautiful journey.
Brutus’ previous owners had left him at the shelter with a note explaining that his behavior was uncontrollable and that they no longer felt safe having him in their home.
With that in mind, Asher’s mission was to foster Brutus and help him find the loving home he deserved.
The First Meeting
Upon arriving at the shelter, Asher was introduced to Brutus, who didn’t behave at all like the “aggressive” dog he’d been described as.
As soon as Brutus entered the room, he walked straight up to Asher and started licking his face. Asher was taken aback.
The shelter staff had warned that Brutus didn’t like men, but here he was, happily smothering Asher in kisses.
The gentle giant rolled over, asking for belly rubs. It was clear that all Brutus wanted was love and attention.
Asher couldn’t help but smile, happy to indulge the Mastiff with belly rubs and play. The connection between them was instant, and Brutus couldn’t stop hugging him.
Brutus Meets the Pack
Wanting to see how Brutus would interact with the rest of the pack, Asher introduced him to his other dogs: Bo, PomPoms, Penny, and Kai.
He expected some barking, but when Kai, the tiny Chihuahua, barked at Brutus, the big dog remained calm. He sniffed Kai and wagged his tail, showing no signs of aggression.
Asher was relieved and knew right then that Brutus would fit in perfectly with the pack. He decided to take Brutus and the others home.
A New Chapter
On the drive home, Brutus couldn’t contain his excitement. As soon as he realized he was going home with Asher, he covered him with more kisses. Asher jokingly told himself that he wasn’t going to keep Brutus, but deep down, he knew the bond between them was undeniable.
That evening, Brutus snuggled up with Asher, and the next morning, he woke up with a barrage of kisses, making it clear he was already comfortable in his new home.
Brutus quickly adapted to his new life, going on hikes with the pack and settling in as a beloved member of the Asher House Sanctuary.
A Forever Home
It didn’t take long for Asher to realize that Brutus, now affectionately renamed Hooch, was meant to stay.
In an Instagram post, Asher shared the exciting news: “We found Hooch his forever home. It’s right here with us at The Asher House. He’s my baby now… He’s going to be an Asher House baby forever.”
Hooch had found his forever home with Asher, and he couldn’t be happier.
The once misunderstood Mastiff was now living the life he deserved, showering his dad with affection and becoming a sweet companion to the other rescue dogs.
A Loving and Compassionate Pup
Hooch proved to be a loving and compassionate dog, always the first to welcome new rescues into the pack.
He made them feel safe and cared for, proving just how much he had to offer despite his difficult past.
Lee Asher couldn’t be more thrilled for Hooch.
The sweet dog had found his perfect home with a dad who adored him, and together, they were living the life Hooch always deserved. This is the happy ending every dog dreams of.
