The emotional toll this takes on dogs can be devastating, leaving them heartbroken and depressed.

This is the story of Bams, a sweet dog who was abandoned by his owner and left at an animal shelter in California.

Meet Bams

When Bams first arrived at the shelter, he looked terrified, as if he knew what his fate might be. His future was bleak—he was set to be euthanized.

Nai’a, one of the rescuers, told The Dodo, “When a dog is that shut down, they don’t allow them to stay very long.” Realizing the urgency, she knew she had to save him from that tragic fate.

Once Bams was rescued and taken from the shelter, his demeanor transformed.

He couldn’t stop hugging and cuddling with people, showing an overwhelming need for affection. His sweet nature quickly became apparent.

Bams’ Journey to Healing

Nai’a decided to foster Bams, giving him a safe place to recover while they searched for a permanent home.

Though he was happy to be out of the shelter, it took time for him to overcome his fears.

Adjusting to a new environment can be overwhelming for any dog, but Bams made steady progress.

Finding His Forever Companion

Over time, Bams began to enjoy life again, going on hikes and exploring new places.

Nai’a shared, “There was a chance he could be adopted in LA, but my best friend, who is a super athlete, was looking for a dog. I told him, ‘I think I found your dog.’”

When Nate, her friend, met Bams, it was clear they were a perfect match.

Despite Bams still being a bit fearful—Nate recalled how Bams was even afraid of seeing a deer—the two quickly bonded.

One memorable moment came when Nate introduced Bams to snow. Initially hesitant, Bams soon realized snow was fun, and his excitement grew as he discovered how amazing it was.

A New Beginning

Now, Bams and Nate enjoy life to the fullest. Whether they’re exploring the outdoors or cuddling on the couch, the two share an unbreakable bond.

Nate said, “He reminds me every day that animals are resilient. They just need a chance.”

Bams’ story is a testament to the resilience of animals and the power of second chances. We’re so glad he found his forever home, and we wish him and Nate countless more adventures together!
