Children and dogs are some of the purest souls in the world. Their emotions are genuine, their actions are heartfelt, and sometimes, they manage to touch our hearts in the most incredible ways.
Take Troy, for example. This sweet boy showed everyone just how kind and caring a child can be.
After noticing his neighbors had an adorable puppy, Troy felt the urge to do something special—maybe give the little guy some extra love and attention.
But there was one big obstacle: the world was in the middle of the pandemic, with social distancing rules in place to keep everyone safe.
Undeterred, Troy came up with a clever way to connect with the pup next door—by writing a heartfelt, handwritten letter.
A Friendship in Tough Times
Ah, the pandemic—an era most of us would rather forget. It was a difficult time that brought plenty of challenges, but it also brought people closer together in unexpected ways.
Feeling a bit lonely without his usual friends around, Troy, who was a fourth-grader at the time, noticed his neighbors had a Golden Retriever puppy named Arthur, also known as Arthur the Floof.
Determined to make a new friend, Troy penned a note to Arthur’s parents:
“Hello neighbors, my name is Troy, I’m in 4th grade and I’m just wondering if maybe after this virus you need a dog sitter and if so, I can take your dog on walks and more.”
The sweet letter, written in red and blue, melted hearts instantly. How could anyone say no to such a polite and dog-loving boy?
Not surprisingly, Arthur’s family agreed to a meet-up, and soon, a wonderful new friendship was born.
My New Friend, Troy
Arthur was just as thrilled as Troy to meet his new human buddy. Despite the social distancing rules, the two enjoyed their time together, bonding from a safe distance.
Arthur, excited about his new “hooman” friend, even shared the news on his Instagram:
“I made friends with a small hooman today. He’s like basically me-sized. I bet I can get him to give me more treats than my hoomans,” said Arthur on his Instagram.
Even though they had to keep their distance, that didn’t stop Troy and Arthur from building a special bond.
While we don’t have any photos of Troy and Arthur together—out of respect for Troy’s privacy—Troy’s letter quickly went viral, and Arthur became an internet sensation.
The letter touched so many people’s hearts, and before long, Arthur had fans from all over the world.
Arthur himself was excited to share the news: “My hoomans told me that me and my fren Troy broke the pupernet yesterday,” he wrote on Instagram.
Arthur the Floof Today
A lot has changed since those pandemic days. Arthur has grown from a playful pup into a gorgeous Golden Retriever, and his family has moved to different places, including Utah and Chicago.
Along the way, Arthur’s adventures have made him a virtual world traveler and a social media star.
Even though Troy has grown up and Arthur has moved away, the bond they share is something that Arthur never forgets.
In a touching Instagram post, Arthur reminisced about their time together:
“For the last day before my birthday, I had to look back on the thing that brought me all you! Thanks to my pal down the hall I made so many internet frens this year. Just as an update, Troy and I hung out a lot before I moved to Utah! This will always be our fav quarantine memory,” said Arthur in one post.
Arthur may have moved on to new adventures, but the memory of his friendship with Troy remains strong. Dogs like Arthur never get forgotten, and kids like Troy grow up to become amazing people.
