For every dog parent, the thought of losing their furry companion is absolutely devastating.
The bond between a dog and their human is so deep that even imagining life without them can be unbearable.
So when a beloved pup goes missing, their owner will move heaven and earth to bring them home—posting on social media, knocking on doors, and plastering neighborhoods with flyers.
But what happens to those flyers when the lost pup finally returns?
The Day Leia Went Missing
One Sunday afternoon, Perla Vanessa noticed something was off. Her beloved dog, Leia, was nowhere to be found.
“In the ten years I’ve had her, this has never happened before,” Vanessa shared in a TikTok video. “But it only takes that one time to scar you.”
To make matters worse, Leia wasn’t wearing her collar with the Airtag, leaving no way for anyone to identify her owner.
Vanessa quickly sprang into action, printing and posting flyers of Leia all over her neighborhood, desperately hoping someone would recognize her sweet pup.
A Neighborhood Search
Vanessa’s search was relentless. By Sunday night, she was overcome with worry, running door-to-door and putting up posters everywhere.
“I was bawling my eyes out, going from neighbor to neighbor, asking if anyone had seen her,” she recalled.
To her surprise, many of her neighbors had seen Leia. She had been spotted playing in yards and even enjoying little impromptu “playdates.”
“She’s microchipped, but that doesn’t mean someone would necessarily take her to the shelter,” Vanessa explained.
Her emotions ran high, and by Monday afternoon, her family became just as worried as she was.
A Happy Twist
Thankfully, Vanessa’s efforts paid off. A neighbor who had taken Leia in noticed one of the flyers and immediately called Vanessa.
“They told me they’d had Leia since Sunday night but didn’t know how to contact me,” Vanessa said. “As they were preparing to take her to the shelter, they saw one of the posters.”
Safe and Sound
When Vanessa was finally reunited with Leia, her relief was immeasurable.
With her beloved pup back in her arms, it was time to take down the missing posters—and Leia tagged along for the task.
Leia trotted beside Vanessa, completely unbothered and blissfully unaware of the chaos she had caused. But Vanessa couldn’t stay mad; the only thing that mattered was that Leia was home safe.
“Now that she’s back, she’s never leaving my side again,” Vanessa concluded with a smile.
Leia’s adventure may have caused some tears, but it also brought a beautiful reminder of the love and dedication between a dog and their human.
