When Jessie, a two-year-old Rottweiler, became pregnant, her owners expected her to have five or six puppies at most. But to their amazement, Jessie delivered one of the largest litters they had ever seen—three times bigger than expected.
In the middle of the night, the puppies just kept coming, much to the disbelief of her owners, Eleanor and Ian Usher.
What they thought might be a dream was actually unfolding before their eyes. Thankfully, Jessie delivered all her babies safely and with ease.
A Proud Rottweiler Mom and Her Remarkable Litter
On October 15, 2017, at her forever home, Jessie gave birth to a whopping 15 healthy puppies. Yes, 15 beautiful Rottweiler pups!
This was the first time Jessie’s owners had bred puppies, and the result left them completely shocked.
Eleanor explained to SWNS, “We were expecting the due date to be October 17, but around 1:50 a.m. on October 15, I heard a scratching noise from the bottom of the stairs.”
When Eleanor and Ian rushed downstairs, they discovered Jessie had already given birth to two puppies, with more on the way.
The Puppies Just Kept Coming
Since they hadn’t done an ultrasound—due to the cost—Eleanor had been told to expect three to five puppies.
“After the sixth puppy, I was telling her, ‘Good girl, you can stop now, you don’t have to do anymore,’” Eleanor recalled. But Jessie wasn’t finished yet.
The puppies just kept arriving, and Eleanor and Ian found themselves wondering when it would finally end. “We were thinking, ‘Oh my god, when is she going to stop?’” Eleanor said.
By the time the eleventh puppy was born, they even checked the UK record for the largest Rottweiler litter, which stood at 18 puppies, set in 2009. With the speed Jessie was delivering, they wondered if she might get close to that number.
A Happy Ending
At 8:00 a.m., Jessie had finally finished. In total, she gave birth to 15 healthy puppies. Throughout the entire process, Jessie handled everything on her own, proving herself to be a strong and capable mother.
Eleanor and Ian quickly set up a schedule to feed the pups around the clock. “It’s exhausting,” Eleanor admitted, “but it’s worth it to see them.”
A Record to Beat
While 15 puppies might seem like an extraordinary number, the Guinness World Record for the largest litter belongs to a Neapolitan Mastiff named Tia, who gave birth to an astonishing 24 puppies—9 females and 15 males—on November 29, 2004.
Though Jessie’s litter didn’t break that record, her 15 beautiful pups are still a remarkable achievement for a first-time mom.
