It’s hard to put into words the fate of a dog abandoned by its family. The feelings of abandonment, distrust, and sadness are profound, and only rescuers truly understand the heartbreak these animals endure.
One such story comes from Texas, where a compassionate rescuer witnessed the heartbreaking story of a dog left behind.
After being abandoned in a park, the poor dog waited for her family to return—but they never did.
Rosita’s Heartbreaking Past
Judy Obregon, from TAO Rescue in Fort Worth, Texas, is known for her incredible dog rescues. In May 2021, she first saw Rosita near Carter Park’s lake—a place where animals are often abandoned.
This scared, heartbroken pittie had been left there by her family. Judy wanted to help, but Rosita was too fearful to come close.
“When she heard my truck, she bolted into the woods that she now saw as her home. Like so many dogs after being tossed away like trash by the people they trusted,” Judy wrote on Facebook.
For months, Judy tried to capture Rosita, but every time, the dog would run. It was a painful time for them both.
“I can’t describe the sleepless nights, the tears, and the heartbreak each time I had to leave without her,” Judy wrote.
Finally, after over two months, the moment arrived. Judy managed to lure Rosita into a safe trap and, at last, the dog was secure.
Judy’s relief and happiness were overwhelming as she celebrated finally having Rosita in safe hands.
Rosita’s Transformation
The first week was hard. Rosita barely moved, frozen by fear and trauma, so Judy gave her space.
Slowly, Rosita began to explore her foster home, and within a week, she transformed. She started running with joy and even giving Judy affectionate kisses.
Within months, the two became inseparable. Although Judy was technically fostering her, Rosita felt at home. She blossomed into a loving, playful companion with excellent manners.
“Rosita is well-mannered, smart, loyal, and the sweetest girl you’ll ever meet,” TAO Rescue shared.
Looking for a Forever Home
Despite their bond, Judy knows that keeping Rosita would mean fewer rescues in the future.
“It’s been two years, and though I’d love to keep her, I know that doing so would limit my ability to save other Rositas,” Judy told The Dodo.
Rosita still awaits her forever home, but we know the perfect person is out there.
“While her resilient spirit and loving nature have touched our hearts and so many others, she longs for a family of her own,” the TAO team shared.
Here’s hoping Rosita finds her perfect family soon. After everything she’s been through, she truly deserves it!
