Green Bean arrived at the Pennsylvania SPCA after being rescued from a dog fighting ring with 32 other dogs. While many of his companions soon found loving homes, Green Bean remained at the shelter for over two years.
The reason?
Green Bean, a gentle Pitbull, was unfairly labeled as “scary” and “dangerous,” simply because of his breed and past.
Despite his kind nature, Green Bean never got the chance to show his true self.
From “Scary” to Sweet
Rachel, a volunteer at the Pennsylvania SPCA and animal advocate, was one of the few who saw Green Bean for who he really was: a lovable, gentle soul.
She felt an instant connection with him and was saddened to see such a sweet dog passed over simply because of stereotypes.
“He was always smiling for everyone,” Rachel told GeoBeats Animals. “To be in the shelter for two years and still greet you with a wagging tail and a big smile—that’s the kind of dog he was.”
Through the years, Rachel and Green Bean formed a deep bond.
She often took him out of the shelter, and he loved every moment—walking calmly on the leash, savoring new scents, and just enjoying the world. Rachel never once felt unsafe with him, despite the unfair judgments of others.
Whenever Green Bean saw a toy, his eyes would light up like a child’s on Christmas morning.
Finally Finding a Home
Rachel had always believed that Pitbulls, despite their reputation, were some of the sweetest dogs.
“I think a lot of people don’t give these dogs a chance—they’re just afraid because of stereotypes,” she shared. “But it’s all about how you treat and train them.”
After two years, Green Bean was finally adopted into a loving home that could give him all the affection, playtime, and attention he deserved.
While Rachel was thrilled for him, parting ways with her beloved friend was bittersweet.
On Instagram, she shared her farewell message: “I will never forget the last time I took you out. You didn’t want to go back in your kennel, and I told you, ‘This is the last time I have to put you back in here.’ I’ll miss you, but for the best reason. I hope this isn’t goodbye, but rather a ‘see you soon’ in your new home ❤️.”
May this sweet boy finally live the life he always dreamed of.
