Mika spent a heartbreaking ten years confined to a cramped, dirty cage as a breeder dog, forced to have litter after litter without time to recover.
She dreamed of freedom, hoping one day to be loved by a family who truly cared for her.
Thankfully, a team of dedicated rescuers heard her cries and saved her, bringing her into the light and giving her the love she deserved.
Finally Safe
When the rescuers took Mika into their care, they were devastated by her condition.
She was covered in her own waste, severely underweight, and had a large infected wound on her cheek. At the clinic, the staff was horrified by her neglect.
In order to treat her wound, the team had to shave off her filthy, matted fur, and after an hour, Mika was finally free of her tangled coat.
But as they worked, they noticed signs that something else was wrong. Further tests revealed that Mika was blind, diabetic, and suffering from adenocarcinoma.
Her intestines were also clogged, and her cheek wound was badly infected.
A Long Road to Recovery
Mika remained at the clinic for intensive care, and staff quickly started her on daily insulin injections for her diabetes.
In the mornings, she was given fresh air and allowed to feel the softness of grass under her paws for the first time.
The next step in her recovery would be a facial reconstruction surgery to help her heal fully.
After some time, Mika moved in with a loving foster family who ensured she received round-the-clock care. Surrounded by the warmth of her new family, her appetite returned, and she eagerly cleaned every bowl of food.
Astonishingly, the medication to help restore her eyesight started to work, and soon Mika was able to see again!
Before long, her vision improved to about 30%, and with her strength returning, Mika received incredible news – she had been adopted!
A New Life
Mika finally found the family she had always dreamed of, a family that adored her and gave her the freedom to run, play, and enjoy life.
Over time, she transformed into a healthy, happy dog with a shiny, beautiful coat, and an unmistakable joy for life.
Sadly, after two years of love and happiness, Mika passed away due to complications from diabetes and adenocarcinoma.
Her passing left her family and caregivers heartbroken, but they found comfort in knowing they had given her two wonderful years of love and joy.
Mika’s journey is a testament to the difference rescuers make in the lives of animals who need them most.
