Every dog loves a walk with their favorite people, especially when it comes with lots of love, water, and treats.
Freddie, an adventurous pup, was no exception.
On a walk along the river with his family, he was overjoyed—maybe a little too overjoyed.
In his excitement, Freddie lost track of his surroundings and accidentally tumbled 14 feet off the river wall into the waves below.
His family was struck with shock and panic, but one quick-thinking family member immediately called for help, setting a life-saving rescue in motion.
The RNLI Rescuers to the Rescue
Freddie’s owners dialed 999 and requested the coastguard. Despite being near the end of a long shift, the dedicated team from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) sprang into action.
When the rescuers arrived, they spotted Freddie’s owner anxiously leaning over the river wall.
Looking down, they saw two black eyes and a pair of paws clinging to the wall—a frightened Freddie, fighting to stay afloat.
Without hesitation, the team expertly maneuvered their lifeboat and pulled Freddie out of the water, ensuring his safety.
It’s hard to say who was more relieved—Freddie or his rescuers.
Reunion at the Shore
With Freddie safely aboard, the rescuers headed back to the dock. Onlookers at the port were surprised to see the lifeboat pulling in with a dog on board.
“I noticed the lifeboat with the flashing blue lights against the shore,” said Chris Turner, a port line handler, in a press release.
“Next minute, it was coming towards me—with a dog onboard!”
When Freddie reached the shore, he gave his drenched coat a good shake and was finally reunited with his overjoyed family.
A Job Well Done
The heartwarming reunion reminded the rescuers of why they do what they do.
“It’s always a great feeling to witness the reuniting of a dog with its owner,” said RNLI volunteer Aaron Reynolds.
Thanks to their quick response and compassion, Freddie was saved, and his family had their beloved pup back safe and sound—a happy ending for everyone involved.
