It’s heartbreaking to imagine anyone turning their back on a puppy’s innocent, soulful eyes and abandoning them.
Every pup deserves love and care, yet many find themselves alone, scared, and waiting for a helping hand.
Jila was one of those little souls, left by the roadside, shivering in the cold and suffering from mange.
She curled up in a small doghouse, her only hope to be taken somewhere warm and safe.
A Puppy in Need
During her routine search in Fort Worth, Texas, Judy Obregon, founder of TAO Animal Rescue, spotted a doghouse.
Rushing over, she found it moving slightly. Her heart broke as a tiny, frightened puppy peered out, looking at her with big, soulful eyes.
It was cold and rainy, and Jila trembled in her little shelter. Covered in mange and visibly weak, she seemed to sense Obregon was there to help.
Judy wrapped her gently in a blanket, reassured her that she’d be safe, and brought her into her car. Jila looked out the window, calmer now, perhaps sensing she was finally out of harm’s way.
“And I think at that moment, she knew deep down that this was it. She was safe,” Obregon later told The Dodo.
Jila’s Journey to Health and Love
Obregon brought Jila to the vet, where she was treated for mange and skin infections with antibiotics and medicated baths.
She then took Jila in as her emergency foster, naming her “Jila” in honor of her gentle eyes. With her new foster mom, Jila felt cared for, sleeping often as she began to heal.
Soon, Jila went to her second foster home with Paige, who gave her the constant love and care she needed.
Jila quickly bonded with Paige, snuggling and licking her hands to show her gratitude. After some time, Jila moved in with another foster mom, Emily, who continued Jila’s road to recovery.
Her coat started to shine, and her happy energy returned.
Jila even had a foster sibling, Clover, and the two pups enjoyed their time together.
With each day, Jila grew healthier and more joyful, and after a few months, her skin had fully healed, and she was ready to find her forever family.
A Forever Home
Around that time, a loving family in Texas was looking for a dog for their eight-year-old son. The moment they saw Jila, they knew their search was over.
When Jila met her new mom, she ran into her arms and gave her a kiss, fitting in with her new family instantly.
They hugged her, showering her with kisses, and Jila, overwhelmed with happiness, wagged her tail non-stop.
“When I look at her, I just see joy,” her mom shared with The Dodo. “Sometimes I don’t know if she even remembers being abandoned. She’s just so overwhelmingly happy.”
Now, Jila has finally found the love she always deserved. Watching her happiness brings warmth to everyone who meets her—proof that every puppy deserves a happy ending.
