Rescuers Were Shocked When This Owner Returned His Dog Because He Was ‘Boring’

Honey’s story is one of heartbreak and endurance. This sweet Husky endured not one, but two devastating losses of her home.

All she wanted was a cozy place to call her own, but life had other challenges in store for her.

A Happy Start Turns Heartbreaking

Honey’s first taste of happiness came when a family in Tampa, Florida, adopted her during the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center’s Adoption Event. She was overjoyed to finally have a loving home.

But after five years, her world fell apart. A family member developed allergies, and Honey found herself back at a shelter.

Despite the heartbreak, she remained hopeful for another chance at a forever home.

Her second adoption brought temporary relief, but soon, she was abandoned again—this time with the heart-wrenching reason that she was “boring.”

“The adopter found that she didn’t eat much while in their care and showed little interest in treats. She had no interest in toys or playing. Honey is very quiet, calm, and spends most of her day sleeping,” volunteers shared on the Rescue Me Tampa page.

A Shelter and a Second Chance

At the shelter, Honey’s future seemed bleak. But her story took a turn when Julie Bassett, a rescuer with Husky Life Rescue in Polk County, Florida, stepped in.

Julie brought Honey to a temporary home, giving her the space and time to relax.

At ten years old—or so everyone thought—Honey appeared deeply depressed. She was sweet and loving but lacked the energy to be active.

What seemed like a personality quirk turned out to have a much deeper cause.

A Shocking Discovery

Veterinary care revealed that Honey wasn’t just “boring”—she was gravely ill. And to everyone’s surprise, she wasn’t ten years old but closer to fifteen!

“Honey was taken to the veterinarian today. We have been informed that Honey is actually closer to 15 years old. Her liver and pancreas were elevated quite high. She does have a UTI and respiratory infection. It’s no wonder she was ‘boring.’ Kind of hard to be motivated when you feel so bad,” Husky Life Rescue shared on Facebook.

Julie was heartbroken but determined to help Honey heal.

Honey began treatments at North Polk Animal Hospital, and after just two days, she started to show signs of improvement.

A Path to Recovery

With proper medication and therapy for pancreatitis, Honey’s health is steadily improving. She’s beginning to regain her energy and, most importantly, her joy.

Despite her age and the hardships she’s endured, Honey is a bundle of love.

She delights in belly rubs and cuddles with the staff, showering them with affection in return.

For now, Honey is focusing on recovery and enjoying the safety and comfort of her foster care.

Although it may take some time before she’s ready for her forever home, one thing is certain: Honey’s days of abandonment are over.

Honey’s resilience and sweet spirit are a testament to the power of love and care.

She’s finally getting the life she deserves, surrounded by people who will never let her down again.
