This Dog Couldn’t Stop Hugging His New Owner After Being Saved From Abusive People

Losing a dog is one of the most heartbreaking experiences anyone can go through. No amount of preparation can truly ease the pain.

You find yourself wondering if you gave your dog everything they needed, or if you were the best owner for them. While nothing can fully heal the heartache, sometimes, unexpected comfort can help.

For the McCraw family, that comfort came in the form of a new rescue dog who, from the moment she saw them, was just so full of joy.

Meet Maggie

The McCraw family was devastated after losing their beloved dog, Mischka, to cancer. They were deep in grief when Maggie came into their lives, and the connection was immediate.

The rescue organization, Halfway There Rescue, arranged for the family to meet Maggie in South Carolina, and their first encounter was pure magic.

Mary McCraw told The Dodo, “She melted my heart. We had lost our other dog a few months prior to meeting Maggie, and this was just a meet-and-greet in my mind. I didn’t think I was ready for a new dog at the time.”

But it turned out Maggie was exactly what they needed. Mary and her husband, Mark, fell in love with Maggie instantly.

She charmed them from the moment they met, and it was clear they were meant to be together.

Throughout the whole meeting, Maggie clung to her new human dad as if to say, “Thank you for saving me.”

Maggie’s Story

Maggie, a white dog with a distinctive black spot over her eye, had a rough start in life. Her previous owners had used her for breeding and then abandoned her when they no longer had use for her.

Luckily, Maggie was rescued and placed in foster care with Andra Mack, who helped her regain her trust in humans.

“She became one of the sweetest dogs we have ever fostered,” Mack said. “The moment Maggie met her new dad, my husband and I just looked at each other — because we knew. It was like a movie.”

Now, Maggie was ready for her forever home in South Carolina, and the McCraw family was more than happy to welcome her into their lives.

A New Beginning

Even Andra noticed the special connection between Maggie and her new family.

“They were meant to be together,” she said. “The beam of sunshine in the video makes me believe that Mischka, their former dog, was looking down on that meeting and smiling.”
