Making friends can be tough for some of us. It’s like trying to dance when you’ve got two left feet—you know the moves, but when you try, you end up stepping on your own toes.
Luckily, there are those special friends who look past the awkwardness and see the beauty inside.
One such friend is Oatmeal, a quirky, lovable pup, and his devoted human, Adria.
Every Day is Pool Day
For Oatmeal, water is pure bliss!
Whether he’s swimming, floating in his trusty “Oat Boat,” or standing on two paws pretending to be human, the pool is his happy place.
“Swimming is Oatmeal’s favorite thing in the entire world. I spent the last year and a half traveling with him to pet-friendly pools. We even threw our very own dog pool party—it was such a blast!” Adria shared in a video.
But while Oatmeal is a natural when it comes to splashing around, he’s not quite as skilled in another area: making friends.
A Socially Awkward Pup
Adria took to TikTok to share a hilariously relatable video of Oatmeal trying—and struggling—to bond with other dogs at the park.
“He’ll just stand awkwardly next to dogs, hoping they’ll invite him to play because he doesn’t want to intrude. But then when a dog approaches him to play, he gets even weirder,” Adria explained.
Oatmeal, however, is nothing if not resourceful. He’s come up with a foolproof strategy to make himself look cool and win over potential playmates:
- Act uninterested – Oatmeal will investigate something on the ground or scratch himself, hoping the other dogs will think he’s so chill they’ll want to play with him.
- Run in circles – If step one fails, Oatmeal starts running loops around the other dogs, trying to catch their attention and coax them into chasing him. If they don’t notice the first time, he’ll keep at it until they do.
And if all else fails?
Oatmeal is perfectly content rolling around in the grass by himself, living his best goofy life.
The Perfect Life for an Imperfect Pup
Awkwardness aside, Oatmeal has everything a pup could dream of—a loving human who adores him and endless opportunities to splash and play.
Adria credits Oatmeal for being more than just a playful companion.
“The instability of being in your twenties is so exhausting, and I really struggled with it. That’s why I’m so grateful to have Oatmeal. He’s not only my self-trained service dog for anxiety but also the reason I get out of bed some mornings,” she shared.
Whether he’s making a splash in the pool or awkwardly befriending dogs at the park, Oatmeal is proof that being a little different is what makes us special.
And with Adria by his side, Oatmeal is living a life filled with love, laughter, and endless adventures.
