Poe, Finn, and Penny were more than just a trio of dogs—they were family.
Each of them had their own rescue story: Poe was adopted at the age of 11, Finn was saved from a difficult hoarding situation, and Penny joined the pack as a playful puppy.
Together, they formed an inseparable bond, sharing countless moments of joy with each other and their loving mom, Jillian.
But the close-knit trio faced heartbreak when Poe, at the remarkable age of 20, passed away, leaving Finn and Penny to navigate life without her.
Finding Comfort in Each Other
“Poe was with us for nine wonderful years,” Jillian recalls. “She brought so much light into our lives. After we lost her, Finn and Penny really found comfort in one another.”
After Poe’s passing, Finn leaned on Penny for support. Penny, with her natural nurturing spirit, became Finn’s anchor in this difficult time, offering him the companionship he desperately needed.
“He looks to her for reassurance,” Jillian explains. “He waits for her to get in the car, waits for her to go outside. He wants to do everything with Penny.”
In the car, the two dogs snuggle up, sharing warmth and comfort on every ride.
A Friendship of Trust and Love
Whether during a playful romp or while resting on the couch, Finn and Penny’s bond was clear. Jillian lovingly refers to Penny as Finn’s “therapy dog.”
“Penny is definitely the more confident one,” Jillian says. “Finn admires that about her. He looks to her for the confidence he doesn’t have.”
Their love goes beyond companionship—Finn even saves parts of his meals for Penny, knowing how much she enjoys food.
Finn, now 14, relies on Penny, who is around 10 or 11. Though Penny still bursts with energy, she’s gentle with Finn, aware of his age and slowing pace.
“Finn’s bubble has always been really small,” Jillian says, explaining his deep trust issues. “But there’s no place he’d rather be than with Penny.”
A Bond that Brings Peace
Whenever Finn and Penny are separated, even for just a few moments, they greet each other with excited wagging tails and gentle sniffs, as if to say, “I missed you.”
“They’ve found safety and security in each other during the hardest times,” Jillian says. And though Poe is no longer with them, Jillian believes she’s watching over Finn and Penny with a smile.
In the face of loss, Finn and Penny’s heartwarming connection reminds us that, just like humans, dogs seek comfort in the ones they love.
Their story is a beautiful testament to the power of companionship and the healing nature of a true friendship.
