You Will Be Shaken To The Core After Watching This Abandoned German Shepherd Run After Her Owner’s Car

It’s hard to understand how anyone could abandon their dog in an empty parking lot, leaving them to fend for themselves. Seeing what happened to Phoenix, a sweet German Shepherd pup, is gut-wrenching.

Phoenix, not realizing she was being abandoned, was left in a deserted parking lot in Fresno, California.

She jumped and pawed at her former owner’s car, thinking it was a game. But it wasn’t a game—it was heartbreaking.

The Painful Scene of Abandonment

Phoenix will never forget that white Nissan Sentra, the car that brought her to despair. Security cameras at the Country Living Mobile Home Park in Fresno captured her abandonment.

Her owner had clearly made up his mind, barely looking back as he shut the car door and left Phoenix alone.

Phoenix chased the car, jumping and begging her former owner to stop, but he just drove off, leaving her completely abandoned.

A Silver Lining

Watching the car leave was devastating for Phoenix but also marked the start of something better.

Realizing her owner wasn’t coming back, she ran toward the trailer houses nearby, where a kind worker held her safely until help arrived.

According to reports, Phoenix’s owner had already tried to leave her at a shelter earlier that day, only to find it closed.

So instead, he abandoned her in the parking lot, even lying to shelter staff that he’d “just found” her.

The cruelty of Phoenix’s abandonment is frustrating. But rather than focusing on that, let’s shine a light on the good that came next.

Therapy Dog in Training

Eventually, Phoenix made her way to the Fresno Animal Shelter and then to the Regional Deployed K9 Inc. and Equine Rescue, founded by Meredith Gintyig-Hayes.

Meredith is now fostering Phoenix and preparing her for therapy dog training.

“Her true colors as a playful spirit are shining through,” Meredith shared. Phoenix has begun to explore her new home with confidence and enjoys playing with other dogs.

Once she’s fully adjusted, she’ll begin her service dog training.
