Sometimes, we forget that our dogs don’t just see us as their owners—they see us as their whole world, their best friend, their family. They become deeply attached to us, and even short separations can make them feel anxious or sad.
Now, imagine how devastating it must be for them to be abandoned entirely.
Sadly, the pup in today’s story knows that heartbreak all too well.
Rescue on the Highway
Even though Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California, has rescued countless animals, every new case still tugs at her heart like the very first one.
So when she heard about a dog abandoned on a dangerous, high-traffic highway, Suzette knew there was no time to waste.
She quickly called her friend and fellow rescuer, Arturo, and together they headed to the location—despite it being late at night.
When they arrived, the situation was even worse than they expected.
The street was packed with speeding cars, and the poor pup was visibly terrified. A homeless man nearby explained that the dog had been waiting in the same spot ever since he was dumped, likely hoping his owner would come back.
Suzette and Arturo knew they had to act carefully. If they startled him, he might bolt into traffic, risking serious injury or worse.
“I honestly could not have done this rescue by myself,” Suzette later shared on Facebook. “I am so thankful to Arturo for being there with me and helping. One wrong move, and he could have run into oncoming traffic.”
One Shot at Rescue
Realizing how critical the situation was, the duo knew they had to come up with a foolproof plan to secure the pup on their first attempt.
They quickly built a makeshift enclosure using an old mattress, some discarded boxes, and pieces of wood they found nearby.
Carefully, they guided the frightened pup into the enclosed space, blocking his escape with the wood as he tried to flee.
“After a lot of struggle and with Arturo holding up the area he was trying to escape from, I finally got him in my snare,” Suzette wrote.
The moment they secured the pup, a wave of relief washed over them. They wasted no time getting him into their car and rushing to a nearby vet clinic. Knowing they had saved yet another life filled their hearts with joy.
A New Beginning
Given the high-stakes nature of the rescue, Suzette knew just what to name him.
“This wasn’t easy. His life was in our hands, but we took a chance—and that’s why we named him Chance,” she shared.
Once at the vet, the staff, touched by Chance’s story, treated him to a well-deserved spa day. After everything he’d been through, this sweet pup finally looked and felt like a million bucks.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of Suzette and Arturo, Chance has a new lease on life. Their unwavering dedication and compassion remind us all that every animal deserves love, safety, and a second chance.
